The Ceredigion Coast Path is a stunning walking holiday in Wales on the west coast. This extremely popular walk is 73 miles long and like many long-distance walks can be arranged in either direction. This section covers the walk in a north to south direction. Click here for our south to north options. The Ceredigion Coast Path runs along the coastline from Machynlleth to St Dogmaels.
There truly can be nothing more relaxing than walking along a beautiful coastal path. The breeze from the ocean, and the sun on your shoulders. Butterflies and bees buzzing around the blaze of gold on the gorse bushes. Wafts of salt from the sea below, and the cries of the gulls in the skies. The path twists and turns along the panoramic vista. You will soon relax into a steady walking pace, affording you views of the whole coastline, yet to discover. From Aberystwyth, you can see all the way to Cardigan Bay. Your whole Ceredigion Coast Path journey in one view.
Colourful boats and buildings tucked in small fishing villages such as Aberaeron and New Quay. Fishing boats here land mussels, crab, lobster and mackerel. Navigational interests to be searched out around the harbour. Brilliant Welsh hospitality to be found in each hamlet along this hiking route.
The coastline, thankfully designated in parts as a Heritage Coast to help preserve its natural beauty, has an amazing selection of marine life and mammals. The Ceredigion Coast Path has the highest number of sightings for dolphins in the UK. Making this the perfect coastal walking holiday. You can also spot grey seals, horses in the fields, and birds on the rocks. Choughs, Razorbills and Guillemots. Up, soaring in the skies, you should catch a glimpse of Red Kites. These impressive birds swoop to catch their prey.
As the path crosses sections of saltmarsh, different bird species become apparent. Good food sources encourage waders like oystercatchers and redshank.
Ceredigion’s diverse coastline is special. High cliffs, storm beaches, sandy bays and sea caves, where smugglers used to stash their illicit gains away out of sight.
For those who are walking from North to South, you can link the Pembrokeshire Coast Path once you get to St Dogmaels. However many days you have available, Great British Walks can tailor make itineraries to suit your requirements.
